January 18, 2010 Good Stuff

*Gifts arriving to friends and being a good gift after all when you were worried they'd be awful! I sent Jason a book about Emily Dickinson's gardens because it sounded really cool and was worried he either A. would have it already or B. wouldn't have it because he had no desire to read something like that :p But it turns out it was a book he wanted!

*Great tshirts. Saw a shirt today on someone that said "outlaw organized religion. stop the violence." How true that statement can be at times....especially these times.

*Another wonderful email from a friend that cheered me up!

*On my way into work today, my favorite radio station played the best row of music! "Diplomat's Son" by Vampire Weekend, "Drumming Song" by Florence + the Machine, "So Says I" by The Shins, and then "Blood" by The Middle East (the video I linked to the other day!). And I'm sure they played more good stuff, but I had to go into work so I didn't get to hear any more :(

  1. I am so bad at this good stuff you do that I would not have thought of the music playing on your way to work.. but when I go out with my girlfriend she has her radio to an station that plays old music and has it so low (and I'm hard of hearing) that at times you don't even know it's on.. and then suddenly I find myself singing (in my mind or so low you can't here me) the song thats on the radio.. how many times I've said, "I can't believe I remember the song..or who sang it" especially when all of them aren't what you'd call "top 10".. i mean really..how I remembered a song sung by Eartha Kitt is beyond me! lol

  2. It's good to hear from you Chris! We missed you yesterday (but understand you taking a break of course). Honestly when I saw that book arrive yesterday I wondered if you'd gotten into Jason's wishlist or his goodreads or something. He actually grabbed that book on ILL from the library last fall but never had time to get to it before it had to be returned and you can't renew an ILL. He was really sad about that. So it was the absolute perfect choice. And we really weren't expecting it to show up yesterday with it not being a mail day or anything.

I love good radio days, but I can't remember the last time I listened to the radio. :/

  3. It was a wonderful present, thank you :). I'm trying to figure out where to put it (and the poems I got from Ms Nymeth) into my reading, now...

  5. I love it when a song I love plays on the radio. Somehow it's even better than just deciding to listen to it. And several songs I love in a row is just bliss :D

  6. Love the T-shirt. Unfortunately, it is an accurate sentiment. Glad that I found you over here. I commented on the House on the Rock post. You HAVE to let me know if you are going. It's only about a 4 hour drive from my house. Can't let you get that close without getting chance to meet you!!

I love my XM radio. There are always good days when the music starts to flow early!!

  7. Deslily, No, you're not bad at it!! See, you just thought of a good thing :D Go write it down! It is hard to pick up on all of the little good things that happened in a day. I'm sure about 30 things made me happy today that I didn't think of...in fact, I can think of some now that I didn't write down...we let them pass us by.

Amanda, I know...I was too lazy to write the other night :( I said I wasn't going to do that, but I did it anyway :( That's so awesome that Jason actually wanted that book!! I knew that he wanted her Herbarium (sp?) but I CAN'T afford that one :p So I did an amazon search for Emily Dickinson and looked for stuff having to do with her gardens and that one looked really cool!! I never listened to the radio btw until I got XM radio..I love it now!

Jason, Put them wherever they fit!! And that would be whenever whimsy tells you to pick them up...I find that's when reading is at it's best and most fulfilling!

Debi, I fell in love with that shirt as soon as I saw it...I wanted to ask him where he got it from but I'm not good at talking to strangers...which I guess is a good thing for the most part.

Ana, It is such a great thing :D It used to never happen because we have such CRAPPY radio stations in the US. But then I started PAYING for satellite radio and I will never go back to regular radio. I really don't mind paying $12.95 a month for radio when I can find stations like XMU that play a block of music like that and have a "Vampire Weekend" that features a whole weekend dedicated to the band :D They have so many awesome radio stations!!

Steph, It is sad that the sentiment is so accurate :( But it is a great tshirt! I'm glad you found me here too!! And we're totally meeting at the House on the Rock if I go!!! That would be so freaking awesome Steph!! To get to meet at an American Gods convention at the House on the Rock AND we'd get to meet Neil Gaiman together :D And that means that you'd get some time off! I almost want to go just so that you'd get some time off! And isn't XM just awesome?? My favorite stations are XMU, The altrock station that used to be Ethel, and Lithium (the station that used to be Lucy) They're all so great!!
